In my area we only have a couple of days of snow. Yesterday was one of those few days (sometime we have a year we have more days of snow, though). There was no prediction for snow the day before but rain turned into snow and had a total snowfall of 10 inches (25 centimeters). My kids like snow so they happily romped around in the snow and well I was glad to see them having fun.
The next day, on the other hand, turned out to be one of the worst days for commuting. The surface of the road was covered by snow, and to make the matters worse, some shady parts froze and I had a hard time going to a work place. Since I anticipated traffic congestion because of the snow (people in my area (including me) are not used to snow), I chose my mountain bike. Well I had to push my bike and walk sometimes but I was able to reach my working place in time.
The saving grace was that it was a fine warm day but it will be cold tomorrow morning so I expect the road to freeze again.
Some bike gear review;
Today I wore a pair of gloves by Perl Izumi. I use a lot of Canondale products but for rides on freezing cold days, I definitely wear this winter harsh gloves. I don’t know what they are called in English but they are produced by Pearl Izumi and ones for the coldest environment (- 5 C). I paid about $80 for them. Today even though I rode in the freezing air and did not feel any coldness. They are good.
